The one thing I learned from my favorite writers, Homer Hickam, Adriana Trigiani, and Sharyn McCrumb is that the secret to a good novel is good, strong, larger than life characters. I hope you will find those in my books, and I spend time in malls, restaurants, even church, creating composites of people that will form good novel characters. In Fries though, we already had some of these “larger than life” characters. Both because they were so available, but also because I feel I should honor them for making my life so pleasant and happy, I will use some of these in my novels.
