Ed Goodson

Awaiting a replacement photo of Ed Goodson

One of Fries’ favorite sons, Ed had a great career at East Tennessee State, then played for the Giants, Braves, and Dodgers. An injury cut his career short, but if the designated hitter had been an option, he probably would have stayed in the majors another 8 years.  He finished with .260 batting average, with a .302 average with the Giants in 1973. Never large, especially in today’s standards, about 6’3”, 185 pounds, Ed could hit the ball a mile. I played baseball after Ed left Fries, and used to enjoy going to the away ball parks, and hearing the old-timers tell me how far Goodson had hit a home-run on their field.  Ed still lives near Fries, where he serves as a hitting consultant.
